C2C crochet graph maker

Turn a photo into a C2C crochet graph: each square is one corner-to-corner tile, the key counts tiles per color, and the page estimates the finished size at about 2 cm per tile in worsted yarn. Swatch first; your tile size sets the real size.

Share of yarn is each color's part of all squares. How much yarn that is depends on your yarn weight and tension: work a 10 × 10 swatch, weigh or measure the yarn it used, and scale by these counts. Thread and bead colors on screen are approximations of the real material.

What this C2C crochet pattern maker makes

Corner-to-corner crochet builds a fabric of small diagonal tiles, each worked as a chain and a few double crochets. One tile is one square of the graph, which makes C2C one of the easiest ways to crochet a picture blanket.

The tool sizes tiles at about 2 cm, a typical result in worsted yarn with a medium hook. Yours may differ by hook, yarn and tension, so measure a small swatch and use the size table as a guide.

How big a C2C crochet graph comes out

Finished width = squares × 20 mm. The table uses the nominal grid (corner-to-corner tiles (about 2 cm each in worsted yarn)); real pieces vary slightly with the material, your yarn and your tension.

How to read a C2C crochet graph

A C2C graph is read diagonally. Start at one corner, work one tile in the first row, then add one tile per row until you reach the full width, then decrease back down.

Follow each diagonal row on the graph and change color when the squares change. Many crocheters write the row as counts ("3 blue, 2 white") to avoid losing their place.

Materials for C2C crochet graphs

  • Yarn in the colors from the key; the DMC numbers describe the color to match, not a yarn product.
  • A crochet hook that suits the yarn.
  • Bobbins or small balls for each color block, to avoid carrying long strands.
  • A tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Make a C2C crochet graph from a photo

  1. Choose a simple image

Each tile is a big pixel, so shapes need to be bold.

  2. Set the width in tiles

The page shows the finished size at about 2 cm per tile; a baby blanket is often 40 to 50 tiles wide.

  3. Keep the colors few

Every color block means a bobbin and ends to weave in. Six to eight colors is plenty.

  4. Crochet the diagonals

Increase one tile per row up to the widest diagonal, then decrease, following the graph.

  5. Border and weave in

Add a border to square up the edges and weave in all ends.

Tips for C2C crochet graphs

  • Make a 10 × 10 tile swatch, measure it and divide by 10 to get your real tile size, then use the size table with your number.
  • Yarn amount depends on your yarn and tension. Weigh the swatch, divide by 100 to get grams per tile and multiply by the tile counts in the key.
  • Fewer colors make a cleaner C2C picture; tiles are large, so subtle shades blur.
  • Count rows from the graph corner you started at; reading from the wrong corner mirrors the picture.

Frequently asked questions

Can you turn a picture into a C2C crochet graph?

Yes. Upload a picture, set the width in tiles and the number of colors, and the tool returns a graph with a tile count per color. You read it diagonally from one corner.

How big is a 60-tile C2C blanket?

At about 2 cm per tile it is around 120 cm (47 in) wide. Your tile size depends on yarn and hook, so measure a swatch.

How much yarn do I need for a C2C graph?

It depends on the yarn and your tension. Weigh a swatch of known tiles, work out grams per tile and multiply by the tile counts in the key.

How big is a 60-square C2C crochet graph?

60 squares at 20 mm each come out 120 cm (47.2 in) wide. A square design that size has 60 rows and 3,600 squares.
